Get to Know Rosa

My inspirations are many-faceted.  I am inspired every day by the magic of Santa Fe.  I have always been drawn to surrealism and contemporary art.  I love the movement of Miro and the playfulness of Chagall.  Living in Asia provided me with a sensibility to line and subtlety that hopefully informs my work.  My European adventures gave me a greater understanding that good craftsmanship is essential.

My Artist Statement

I am a Santa Fe based artist who has lived in Malaysia, France and Italy. I have worked with various metals for almost 20 years and have always taken a very hands-on approach to construction and craft, doing my own cutting, welding and patina.

In the last four years I have incorporated kiln-formed glass into many of my sculptures. I find that this to be a natural extension of my experimentation and fascination with the effects of extreme heat on elemental materials. The intrinsic strength and flexibility of metal, married with the intense color and transparency of glass, creates layers and illusion in a finished work, which I believe allows the viewer to bring something of themselves into their experience.

I have been tremendously influenced by Surrealism in my coming of age as an artist and catch reflections of that movement in my current works. I hope that the joy and playfulness with which I approach my work translates into a positive experience for the viewers and patrons of my work. I am pleased to be represented in collections throughout Europe and the United States.
